day 30 - a song that makes you think about life
Machines by Biffy Clyro
That’s right. Biffy 2 days in a row, giving you a taste of how versatile Simon Neil’s songwriting truly is. Having suddenly lost his mother, Neil wrote the album, Puzzle, as a way to come to terms with such a loss. “Machines” rounds out this cathartic riff monster masterpiece on a personal note. Longing for something you can’t save or obtain and losing yourself and your remaining time in the process.
It’s a constant reminder to myself to live and enjoy life while I can. Nurture, love, support, laugh, create and encourage. We only get one shot. And even though we need to grieve from time to time, we cannot let it consume us and waster our own dreams and happiness. - Pete
Feeling This by Blink 182
Not sure when I got into Blink 182. I believe around 2007. Anyway, it seems Queensland trips are a breeding ground of nostalgic songs for me. This song is a good way to end this challenge. Enjoy!! - Ben
The Spirit Carries On by Dream Theater
A song about reincarnation from Dream Theater's iconic Scenes From a Memory. Truly divine. - Shane
Where Is My Mind? by The Pixies
This song always makes me think of floating or freefalling and the lyrics make me think about how insignificant everything is in the big picture but how important everything is in your own little bubble. I love listening to this song but I can never just listen, it always gets me thinking and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. - Elyse
The Great Below by Nine Inch Nails
This is such a beautiful, melancholy song. The fragility of Reznor’s voice at the beginning of the song builds into heart wrenching desperation at the song’s crescendo and it grips me every single time. - Cam
day 29 - a song that makes you happy
Get Up! by Hellions
This song grooves and Hellions rule forever. One time Matt Gravolin liked and commented on a guitar cover i did and it made my year. - Shane
How Bizzare by OMC
If you tell me that you can listen to this song and not have a great time, I will call you a liar. - Cam
Scarlet by Periphery
Oof, Periphery. Matt Halpern is a national treasure and we shall protect him as such. Periphery II was my jam in 2012. This is a fave of mine. - Ben
Bubbles by Biffy Clyro
The riff. The melody. The delivery. It's taken 29 days to get a Biffy Clyro song on here. But good things come to those who wait. - Pete
Stay With Me Bright Eyes by Something With Numbers
This was the song that was played as Cam and I were introduced as husband and wife at our wedding and it’s hard not to love a song that you get to clap along to. Clapping makes me happy. - Elyse
day 28 - a song from the year you were born
Candy by Iggy Pop ft. Kate Pierson
The first I heard this song was on an episode of Rockwiz when it was covered by Chris Ballew from the Presidents of the United States of America and Chelsea Wheatley from the Gingers. I loved it and I immediately looked up the original. Years later, it became a car ride singalong staple long before we were even dating. - Elyse
Israel’s Son by Silverchair
Never been a huge Silverchair fan, however this song absolutely slaps me silly!! Born in 1995 and proud to say Frogstomp came out the year I was born! - Ben
Burning Down The House by Talking Heads
Talking Heads redefined a genre, bridging the 70s and 80s into a weird, beautiful concoction. Really highly recommend. - Pete
Paradise City by Guns N’ Roses
Seriously, the first 90 seconds of this song are iconic. The drums, the vocals, Slash’s guitar work. It’s hook upon hook upon hook… then the main riff kicks you square in the face. It’s just insane. - Cam
Bad Horsie by Steve Vai
This is the song that got me into Steve Vai and a more progressive side of guitar in general. Makes me laugh when people say "bUt He PlaYs wItH nO fEElinG". Morons. - Shane
day 27 - a song with a number in the title
Rabbits Are Roadkill On Route 37 by AFI
I wanted to make sure that I got an AFI track into the mix somewhere, so I decided to take a pretty deep cut from their catalogue and cover it here! These guys have been my favourite bands for years now and it helps that even their B-sides bang hard! - Cam
26 by Hellions
Maybe my favourite song in the world. Lyrics, music, vibes and the memories to back it up. A true gem. - Shane
A Thousand Miles by Vanessa Carlton
Since White Chicks, this has become a bit of a meme song. I’ve always loved it and I used to sing along to my friend playing it on piano in high school. I think we should absolutely cover this song! - Elyse
7 by Catfish and the Bottlemen
This diddy came out of nowhere and just hit me with every hook imaginable. Cert Banger. - Pete
Three Nil by Slipknot
Yep, I've had a Slipknot phase too since 2004 to today. Anyway, Vol. 3 Subliminal Verses is one of my faves alongside Self Titled and Iowa. I can't choose between them. Also...Joey Jordison. Enough said #absolutebeast - Ben
day 26 - a song that needs to be played loud
Gamma Knife by King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard
Did ya think I would go a whole month without playing a Gizz tune? YOU.. ARE.. MISTAKEN!! 'Gamma Knife'. My fave Gizz song. Don't @ me!! TURN THIS ONE UP!! - Ben
New Noise by Refused
Can I scream? Turn it up. Memories of getting ready to go out. Pump up music times a billion. - Pete
Down In Flames by Egypt Central
Riff so fat that it takes up a whole seat on the bus. Turn it up and headbang. - Shane
Motherfucker by Faith No More
My favourite memories of this song are belting it out with my little sister in the car. Gave her a chance to yell motherfucker before she was “old enough”. - Elyse
Charlie Big Potato by Skunk Anansie
Super meaty riff and an incredible vocal performance. This is my go to track whenever I need to test a new PA system as loud as humanly possible. - Cam
day 25 - a song with a colour in the title
Red Sky by Thrice
Slow Burn Banger. Struggled with this one. All my go to bands don't really sing about colour and I had maybe 4 other choices before I remembered this one. Double on Thrice today, but they are worthy. - Pete
Great Big White World by Marilyn Manson
It’s my favourite Marilyn Manson song, it’s a slower and moodier than a lot of his other songs that I like. - Elyse
Blue (Da Ba Dee) by Eiffel 65
Quite possibly the first music I listened to that wasn't my parents. Hits For Kids CD's were a f***ing ride man. 1999 and this track, the vigorously moving Ben, was on this!! Sidenote... This track reminds me of Disney's 'A Bugs Life'... for some reason.. - Ben
Black Honey by Thrice
What an absolute banger! It’s got those massive dynamic swings and the amazing Dustin Kensrue letting that grunt shine through his vocal delivery. - Cam
The Blue And The Grey by Parkway Drive
Atlas is Parkway Drive's best album, don't @ me. - Shane
day 24 - a song that reminds you of someone you’d rather forget
Thank You For The Venom by My Chemical Romance
This one brings back the feeling of being 15 and having no idea how to control the whirlwind of emotions and hormones going on inside your brain. Lots of cringy memories back there. - Shane
Ashes To Ashes by David Bowie
Someone that I would rather forget got me into David Bowie and this became one of my favourite songs. I don’t let any of the bad times ruin how good Bowie is! - Elyse
Famous Last Words by My Chemical Romance
September 2011, right before the Jason Mraz Queensland trip. First song my ex girlfriend and I bonded over. Bittersweet memories from this tune. - Ben
Timebomb by Tove Lo
Full of memories you can't erase, but you can learn to live with. In retrospect I find it amazing how music is often trying to tell you something that you just can't see. - Pete
Pieces by Red
Regadless of my feelings toward the person who introduced this song to me, I can’t help but be a sucker for what is a really great piano ballad. - Cam
day 23 - a song that is a cover
Mad World by Tears For Fears (Gary Jules version)
I did a recording of this song close to 10 years ago now with my friend Tim and I thought it was time to give it a bit of a reboot with a newer version. Obviously I love the song from Donnie Darko and especially in these times, it feels very relevant. - Elyse
99 Red Balloons by Nena (Goldfinger version)
I belt this out everytime at karoake. I love this rendition. It's feel good. It drives. And then you get a German verse. - Pete
Problem by Ariana Grande ft. Iggy Azalea (Set It Off version)
This is one of the songs I listened to with Ben on a road trip back from a gig in Puckapunyal, back when I first joined Rehash. I think of that drive as the moment we went from friends to bros. - Shane
Whiskey In The Jar by Thin Lizzy (Metallica version)
Ahh yes, my Metallica phase (2007-ongoing). I discovered Garage Inc. in 2010 and didn't realise this song was a Thin Lizzy cover... Either way, Metallica killed it on this one! - Ben
Get Low by Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz (Dan Henig version)
I don’t care who you are and what your taste in music is. Get Low bangs hard. But this version that changes it into a foul mouthed acoustic tune? It’s just brilliant. - Cam
day 22 - a song that makes you want to fall in love
Inevitable by Anberlin
It should be pretty clear why this song makes me feel this way. The sentiment is conveyed so beautifully through the lyrics and the strings woven through the song just help to amplify those feelings. Plus when it’s the song you choose to do your first dance to at your wedding, you know it’s done the job. - Cam
Make Out Party by Incubus
It’s a flirty song that makes you want to find that person to be in love with. It always reminds me of the butterflies you get when you’re in love. - Elyse
I’m Yours by Jason Mraz
Sweet nostalgic early relationship honeymoon vibes with this one. Holy cow this one takes me back. Queensland Gold Coast trip, October 2011. - Ben
God Only Knows by The Beach Boys
The Beach Boy goodness. Melodies. Harmonies. All round good vibes. Surprising with all the chaos going on in the background. This song makes me feel love and wanting to share it with someone else. - Pete
Gohan by Aaron Creigh
My dude Aaron from KCs Rock Shop in Boronia. I don't know what this song is actually about, but it just gives me those sweet, early-relationship vibes for some reason. - Shane
day 21 - a song that has many meanings to you
Sex by The 1975
Here's the second 1975 track. I was saying that this band had a lot of happy and positive memories for me (especially late 2015/early 2016), so here's a cover from them!! - Ben
Lost Control by Grinspoon
We perform this song at Rehash gigs, I played it for my VCE exam, this song taught me about Drop-tuning, and Dad used to listen to this album non-stop. - Shane
Wait For It from Hamilton (The Musical)
Hamilton really is the modern day musical. With groove, hip hop, rap and rock elements. The entire soundtrack tells a story with feeling. First time I heard Wait For It, it blew me away, not only with it's structure, but with the lyrics and how close to home to rang true for me. - Pete
Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley
This is one of those songs that has will always bring out a different emotion every time you hear it. Sometimes it’s uplifting, other times it cuts you to the bone. Either way, Buckley’s voice has always been awe inspiring. - Cam
Dance, Dance by Fall Out Boy
Fall Out Boy was the first concert that my Dad took me to, just the two of us. This is also one of the first songs my old cover band learned and Fall Out Boy happen to be one of my favourite bands ever. - Elyse
day 20 - a song by an artist who is no longer living
Down In A Hole by Alice In Chains
I truly believe that Alice In Chains is one of the most underated bands to come out of the grunge scene in the 90s. And Layne Staley was one of the most underated voices too. Mired by drug abuse that resulted in his untimely death early 00's. Down In a Hole hits home in many ways, and the album Dirt is a classic. I recommend it to anyone who wants to explore the wider grunge scene. In someways, this holds up more so then Nevermind. Big call, but that's my feelings on it. - Pete
Warflower by The Mayan Factor
A friend of mine gave me a bunch of music years ago and the album In Lake’ Ch happened to be there. This the opening track to what has become one of my absolute favourite albums of all time. Sadly, the singer passed away years ago but the band has recently started putting out new material again! - Cam
Breaking The Habit by Linkin Park
R.I.P. Chester. Still hurts to know that you're gone. - Shane
Levels by Avicii
Ahh Avicii. I chose this song because back in the day I found lots of cool metal guitar covers of it. Well done Avicii, you made a sick track! RIP <3 - Ben
Ode To My Family by The Cranberries
This was the first song that I remember noticing the light and shade in someone’s voice and practicing the control needed to sing such a powerful ballad. It was always the song I skipped to on that album. The fact that she’s gone is still so sad. - Elyse
day 19 - a song from the 70s
Carry On Wayward Son by Kansas
Once you've finished watching my version, you NEED to look at the official video for this song, it's the most 70s thing you'll ever see. - Shane
The Logical Song by Supertramp
Supertramp was one of my parents’ favourites so we heard it a lot growing up. I always liked how different they sounded from everyone else and this song is still one of my favourites. - Elyse
Next To You by The Police
LIKE... I KNEW THE POLICE. BUT I DIDN'T KNOW THE POLICE UNTIL I heard Outlandos D'Armour... And this being the first track from an amazing album. If helped redefine a lot of things for me. Especially that a band can grow and change and still hold those same truths throughout their career. - Pete
N.I.B. by Black Sabbath
More Sabbath! First song that I got into that wasn't Iron Man or Paranoid! - Ben
For Crying Out Loud by Meat Loaf
Pretty much every road trip with the family included at least one rotation of Bat Out Of Hell… and rather than going for the obvious ones, I went for this amazingly emotional and dynamic track. Does it clock in at nearly 9 minutes? Yes… but it’s all worth it. - Cam
day 18 - a song to drive to
Ain’t It Fun by Paramore
I’ve always loved Paramore and I was nervous when this album came out. Ain’t It Fun didn’t grab me straight away but after a few listens, it was my go to track and I have belted it out whilst driving many many times. Cam can attest to that. - Elyse
Young Turks by Rod Stewart
The GTA San Andreas Soundtrack is iconic. Loads of classics. This song just reminds me of driving through sunset along the coast. - Pete
Like You Ain’t Even Gone by Florida Georgia Line
Bro Country! Let's play a game. Does this song include...
1. A reference to a girl?
2. An alcoholic bev of some kind?
3. A pickup truck?
4. The radio?
5. Friday/Saturday night? - Ben
Highway Star by Deep Purple
This song reminds me on road trips up to Mildura with the old man. Nothing better than getting out onto a flat highway and gunning it while Deep Purple shreds over the stereo. - Shane
Giles by Unearth
This song is actually responsible for at least one speeding fine. The bridge riff just makes you want to put your foot to the floor. - Cam
day 17 - a song that reminds you of yourself
Cross Out The Stars by Fightstar
From the first time I heard this song, something about the lyrics and their delivery just resonated with me on an incredibly personal level. There are so many individual lines that I connect with, guess which ones they are. - Cam
X (Mwah) by Hellions
I accidentally did a Ben and chose 3 songs from the same band, but that's only because I love Hellions so much! Such infectious vibes and the self-reflective nature of their lyrics really resonates with me. - Shane
Move On by Between You & Me
I only discovered this band last year. However, Between You and Me took me back into my fond memories of my Year 10/11 years, (probably where Asking Alexandria ruled the roost of my musical tastes). - Ben
Beautiful Dangerous by Slash with Fergie
With this song, it’s more about the feeling I get when I listen to it. It’s just like that dirty hard rock which is a little bit sexy and that fast paced, living on the edge kind of lifestyle. - Elyse
Can’t Get It Out by Brand New
This is probably self explanatory. I think the music, melody and the lyrics all work so well together and the song burns slowly and launches into the last chorus. - Pete
day 16 - a song about drugs or alcohol
The A Team by Ed Sheeran
My original choice was “Novocaine” by 10 Years so I had to go for a better known song about drugs or alcohol. It was actually my brother who suggested doing “The A Team”. - Elyse
The Perfect Drug by Nine Inch Nails
Reznor at his peak drug addiction. Some of his most intriguing mastery, mixing rock, electronica and pain. - Pete
Drink by Alestorm
Step One: Grab some mates and some Captain Morgans. Step Two: Chuck this song on. Step Three: When they begin chanting, DRINK!
This is how I spent most of my early twenties. - Shane
Chocolate by The 1975
This song is about weed. Also, The 1975 is one of my all time favourite bands. So many good memories. Also, Matty Healy man crush!! - Ben
Wasteland by 10 Years
I’m kind of glad Elyse couldn’t find a backing track for her song so I didn’t have to change my choice. This song is an incredible ode to the withdrawal process and it just hits me every single time. - Cam
day 15 - a song that makes you want to dance
Aeromancy by Dorje
I don't dance. At most I head-bang or groove a little. But I don't dance. But if I was going to dance, I would move pretty vigorously to this track. What an absolute thumper of a tune!! - Ben
Freaks by Timmy Trumpet
It’s the one song that is guaranteed to get me on a dance floor at a party. The bass and tweeters make the speakers go to war, how could you not? - Elyse
Dance Commander by Electric Six
It would be awesome if we could dance. - Cam
Love Foolosophy by Jamiroquai
If you can't boogie down to some Jamiroquai then you're no fun and I don't want to know you. - Shane
Like I Love You by Justin Timberlake
JT coming in primal dance rage. The drum beat is fierce. And the acoustic guitar adds some texture and rhythm. Always makes you move. Don’t tell me it doesn’t. - Pete
day 14 - a song from your pre-teen years
Digging The Grave by Faith No More
Faith No More are a solid unit. King For A Day, Fool For A Lifetime was one of the first albums that started to turn my musical understanding on its head. Digging The Grave is another classic. Simple in its application but very effective. - Pete
Groove Is In The Heart by Deee-Lite
Yeah, what a banger! I think I liked this song even more because my parents hated it and even though it came out in 1990, I remember it being played on Video Hits and Rage a lot throughout my youth. - Elyse
Not The American Average by Asking Alexandria
Ahh yes, 2012, Year 11. Every school maths class, bus trip, recess, lunchtime and car ride to and from. Asking Alexandria was there. Because I was angsty teen I guess... - Ben
Pure Massacre by Silverchair
This song was the first time that I realised that I was a fan of a band rather than just liking a song. When Tomorrow then this were released back to back, my 8 year old mind was never the same! - Cam
St. Jimmy by Green Day
I vividly remember hearing this song for the first time at age 10. It blew my tiny mind; I simply could not comprehend that music could BE this fast! And thus begun my journey into becoming a rock musician. - Shane
day 13 - a song that you’d sing as a duet with someone
Black Days Begin by Atreyu
I wanted a song with two singers, one screamed and one clean. I also wanted a song that was interesting to play on guitar, and this song features some mean riffs and a cheeky chromatic motif that I still use as a warm-up on guitar. - Shane
Bang Bang by Jessie J
I like Jessie J and I love Nicki Minaj… Ariana was also there but the vocals are really powerful and fun all the way through and it’d be fun to give it a go one day. - Elyse
Holy Mountains by System Of A Down
System of a Down was the go to band I would listen to on the tractor (generally bailing hay). No one could hear me, so I would sing their discography on repeat whilst riding a tractor around a paddock, now to find someone to sing with me... - Ben
Licking Creme by Sevendust
This song combines two of my absolute favourite singers from both Sevendust and Skunk Anansie… and it just straight up bangs. This is definitely one that you need to hear! - Cam
Under Pressure by Queen & David Bowie
Freddie & Bowie. The best of both worlds. Convince Elyse to be the Freddie to my Bowie… - Pete
day 12 - a song you think everyone should listen to
A.I.R by Thick Line Thin Line
This wasn’t originally my first choice for this topic… but with some recent developments, you should definitely check out TLTL as quickly as possible. - Cam
Rattlesnake by King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard
King Gizz #2! If you were to get into King Gizz, don’t start with this song. You’ll hate them like everyone else who listens to ‘Rattlesnake’ first. I’m just doing this for memes. ‘Rattlesnake’ is a meme. - Ben
Eight Seconds by Touche Amore
The album this comes from, Stage 4, is a visceral and musically captivating piece. Every song hits you lyrically, while the music lifts you back up after each blow. - Pete
Shot Down by Brooke Taylor
Everybody listen to Brooke Taylor, she’s a great local performer and her original stuff is awesome. - Shane
Bring Out The Dead by As A Rival
Because it’s Pete and Nath’s band! And they’re amazing. I think this is my favourite song of theirs but it’s bloody hard to choose just one. Check them out on Spotify and when possible, check them out live! - Elyse
day 11 - a song by a band you wish were still together
War Pigs by Black Sabbath
Black Sabbath. Arguably one of the most influential bands on my playing to date, thanks to the man, the myth, the legend behind the kit, Mr. Bill Ward. One of my all time favourite gigs was seeing them play back in 2016 on their final 'The End' tour. - Ben
Saints of Los Angeles by Motley Crue
I know Mötley are technically together again, but their last album dropped in 2008. Also Vince's live performances are embarassing, so just release another album and call it a day, guys. - Shane
Eriatarka by The Mars Volta
This band is certainly not everyone’s cup of tea but I honestly don’t want to ever find a flaw in their first album and Eriatarka kind of sums up that period of the band’s existence without devolving too far into their prog-rock jamming. - Cam
Don’t Speak by No Doubt
No Doubt are one of my favourite bands. Gwen Stefani was my first ever live concert with my mum and I just wish that they would write some god damn music together again! - Elyse
Outshined by Soundgarden
I wish I didn’t have to nominate Soundgarden. I wish Chris Cornell was still alive. His was another voice that could go from the lower depths to soaring metal screams. This band changed the way I looked at music progressions, tunings and time signatures. Outshined is a classic. - Pete
day 10 - a song with a name in the title
Helena by My Chemical Romance
There was a time that I wasn’t into emo for all the wrong reasons. MCR was that gateway. With their punk/rock roots. Awesome drumming. And Gerard Way’s insane vocal delivery. Helena embodies all those things. - Pete
A Song For Milly Michaelson by Thrice
This track is equal parts beautiful and haunting. Just close your eyes and let yourself get taken away by it. - Cam
If I’m James Dean, You’re Audrey Hepburn by Sleeping With Sirens
Two names?! Double whammy! No but seriously, Sleeping With Sirens… you either love them or you hate them. I’m a deadset emo listener from way back so I’ve been a fan of this band for a long time now. - Ben
The Ballad Of Mona Lisa by Panic! At The Disco
It’s such a great to belt out and it’s one of the first songs that I remember singing in the car with Cam. - Elyse
Keanu Reeves by Logic
I’m all about positivity in music, and Logic is one of the only rappers I’ve heard who uses his music to inspire others, rather to attack or demean. Keanu Reeves himself is also a great example of this. - Shane
day 9 - a song that breaks your heart
Prayer Of The Refugee by Rise Against
I could have done any Rise Against song, as they’re all about fighting for the downtrodden. They do punk properly. - Shane
Daddy by Coldplay
Reminds me of my son and everytime we’re not together. Hits every feel possible. - Pete
Black Dress by Kisschasy
Because it’s fucking sad. It’s from back in my emo days and if I needed a good cry, this song would always do the trick. - Elyse
Your Guardian Angel by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus
Wow… this song. Early 2012, first high school relationship. A lot of happy and nostalgic memories with this one. - Ben
Hurt by Johnny Cash
The way Cash took Trent Reznor’s heroin anthem and managed to twist the meaning into something completely different and yet, equally profound is astonishing. If you haven’t ever seen the video for this, you need to. - Cam
day 8 - a song by an artist whose voice you love
Funhouse by Pink
I’ve always loved Pink’s voice because she’s got an edge to it. She’s got them rock chick vibes and I have been blessed with a naturally husky “rock chick” voice so I always idolised her and her sound. Also her ability to be dynamic even with such a specific tone to her voice. - Elyse
Catch Fire by Periphery
I’ve only really gotten into Periphery over the last 6 months or so, but Spencer’s voice just blow me away. His cleans and screams, as well as his note choices, are all just out of this world. - Shane
Open My Eyes by Rival Sons
I discovered Rival Sons in my final year of school in 2013. Possibly one of the most soulful and powerful voices and frontmen I’ve ever heard, Mr. Jay Buchanan - Ben
So Real by Jeff Buckley
Buckley’s voice shows control and feeling. His ability to emote his lyrics and melody was phenomenal. Every time I listen I can’t help but be moved. - Pete
Survival by Tesseract
Dan Tompkins is absolutely one of my favourite vocalists in the world right now. From his screaming on the first Tesseract album to his wonderful clean singing, he is fantastically versatile. The way that he can craft vocals over such intricate rhythmic patterns is incredible. - Cam
day 7 - a song that reminds you of summertime
Summerholidays vs. Punkroutine by Refused
So title aside, I got into Refused right around the end of high school and “The Shape Of Punk To Come” became the soundtrack to my post school drinking. - Cam
Jesus Of Suburbia by Green Day
I got “Bullet In A Bible” for Christmas one year and watched it daily for about three months. Hence, that show was my summer soundtrack and Jesus Of Suburbia was a favourite of mine. - Elyse
Feel Good Hit Of The Summer by Queens Of The Stone Age
Summer of 2001. I heard about this band. I bought the CD. I fell in love. On repeat. Carry on. - Pete
Sense by King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard
One of the three King Gizz songs on the list. Yes… Three… Deal with it!! Sense has been representative of summer for me since 2016. It’s the caravan down at Rye to family Christmas in Queensland. Plenty of good memories - Ben
What I Got by Sublime
I always play Sublime in the car when I’m getting a little bit road-ragey, because it’s impossible to listen to these guys and feel anger. - Shane
day 6 - a song you remember from childhood
Neon by John Mayer
It was a toss up between this and The Hamsterdance. However John Mayer’s album “Room For Squares” came out in 2001 and I fondly remember Dad having a copy in his car that he would always play. - Ben
Get A Haircut by George Thorogood
I honestly don’t know why I have such a vivid memory of this but I remember a child, sneaking out of bed super early to play Mega Drive and when I switched on the TV… This song was playing on Rage. - Cam
The Memory Remains by Metallica
The lullaby bit in this song is one of those triggers for me and takes me back to being a small child, when this album came out. Also, Pete loves it when I point out that I was 2 when this album dropped. - Shane
Black Or White by Michael Jackson
Another classic. Another banger. I remember every Saturday morning waking up to watch Video Hits and hope this was #1 so I could watch the entire video clip. - Pete
Wannabe by Spice Girls
Spice Girls’ first album “Spice” was one of the first albums that I ever owned. I love every track on the album but Wannabe brings back so much nostalgia, happiness and many dance routines made up with friends. - Elyse
day 5 - a song that makes you sad
Waves by The Dear Hunter
Knowing that things aren’t forever. Accepting that and moving along with the ride. Trying to hold on isn't always necessarily the right thing to do. - Pete
I Don’t Wanna Be Here Either by John Floreani
Trophy Eyes are one of the more recent bands that I've gotten into, and this is from their singer's solo album. This ones about as subtle as a brick to the head, and definitely gets me a bit misty-eyed. - Shane
Electric Tears by Buckethead
Quite possibly the saddest song I have ever heard. No lyrics or other instruments. Just one lonely, sombre guitar from the shred-master himself, Buckethead. - Ben
Wonderful Life by Alter Bridge
There aren’t many songs that convey that mournful feeling of losing someone close to you like this one. - Cam
Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd
This song is bittersweet for me, it’s my all time favourite Pink Floyd song but I remember having a conversation with my Dad when I was younger that this would be his funeral song. Ever since then, I can’t help but tear up when it comes on. - Elyse
day 4 - a song you’d love to have at your wedding
Lost In You by Three Days Grace
I’m supposed to be getting married in September, so at this stage I’d be happy to have any song played at my wedding so long as we don’t have to postpone! - Shane
Loud Like Love by Placebo
This song is actually the song that Elyse walked down the aisle to at our wedding, so naturally it would be my choice for this one! - Cam
Vanilla Twilight by Owl City
Even though they’re not the most loved band in the world, Owl City holds a special place in my heart at this stage of my life and would love to have this song at my wedding. - Ben
Stand Inside Your Love by Smashing Pumpkins
You can waltz to this very easily. - Pete
2s My Favorite 1 by Coheed And Cambria
This song played at our wedding ceremony after we were officially married and made our way back up the aisle to start celebrating. It’s such a special song, sung by a husband and wife, it fits the bill perfectly! - Elyse
day 3 - a classic favourite
Part Of Your World by Jodi Benson
The Little Mermaid has been my favourite movie for as long as I can remember. I don’t often get to show this side of my voice so it was a good opportunity to step away from rock for a few moments and enjoy being a Disney princess. - Elyse
Sabotage by Beastie Boys
Great song. Groove. Video clip. Classic. - Pete
Eleanor Rigby by The Beatles
A lot of positive connotations with this song. Representative of previous bands I’ve been in and a trip to the UK in early 2015. - Ben
Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd
Love a bit of Skynyrd and this is one of their more underrated songs. A classic singalong. - Shane
Gimme Shelter by The Rolling Stones
I’m a sucker for songs that build up gradually and there might not be another song that does it better than this. The groove, Keith Richard’s guitar work and every part of the vocals are incredible. - Cam
day 2 - a song that moves you forward
Run With The Wolves by The Prodigy
It’s such an intense track that it makes you want to take on the world. Maybe it’s the vocal repetition or the fact that the drums are smashed by bloody Dave Grohl but it just grabs hold and shakes you until you feel guilty for not doing more with your time. - Cam
What You Waiting For by Gwen Stefani
The title speaks for itself! Everything about this song from the lyrics to the beat really kick your butt into gear! - Elyse
Push Forward Fucken Engage by Dead Kelly
Ooft. Just straight up, some of the nastiest metal you’ll ever hear. This one’s about living life to the fullest.
- Shane
Standing Still by As A Rival
Shameless self promotion. I wrote this song for this very reason. In life we have hurdles to overcome. What doesn’t hurt us makes us stronger. Keep moving. Keep your head up. - Pete
Itch by Nothing But Thieves
Equally good to drive to, when I play Itch I know I’m going to have a productive day. - Ben
day 1 - a song you never get tired of
Jambi by Tool
I jumped on the Tool bandwagon super late. I first heard this song early 2011 in New Zealand and have forever stayed obsessed. - Ben
Find The Real by Alter Bridge
I first heard this song on the DVD of WWE Royal Rumble 2005 and thought it was the fattest riff I’d ever heard. It wasn’t until much later that I rediscovered Alter Bridge and found that the riff was still fat. - Shane
IV. sweatpants by Childish Gambino
I can listen to this song on repeat for hours on end. The bass, the groove, the flow. It’s cert banger. Ticks a lot of the other boxes on the forthcoming list as well. - Pete
Rats by Ghost
It just goes! You can’t help but bop along to it. I love the theatrics of Ghost and I find myself coming back to this song all the time. And how can you not “oh oooh whoooooa oooh” along? - Elyse
Reach by The Butterfly Effect
From the moody intro until the riff kicks you in the face, everything about this song hooks me. Incredible musicianship and one of the best voices in Australian rock. Just listen to the end of that second chorus! - Cam
